My new Sony Ericsson C510

I just bought a new mobile phone on 2 May after my Symbian Nokia phone was out of service after being used for three weeks. I will report the faulty product to Dafi's father soon and I hope he will take prompt action on this issue. In the meantime, please peruse the review of Sony Ericsson C510, my mobile companion. Enjoy!

Design

The C510 is a smart-looking candy bar design, with a low-key front panel and some nice contrast silver and dark blue edging on the black version of the phone we tested (there’s also a silver version with grey trim). It has a slimline build, with dimensions of 107(h) x 47(w) x 12.5(d)mm, and a respectably solid 92g bodyweight. It feels good to hold and operate, the numberpad nicely set up with large, well defined and responsive keys a pleasure to press.

Unlike the more popular Walkman series, the C510 is also the forefather of Cybershot range, having adopted the index number 5**.

Sony Ericsson has also added another delight in this phone for its decdicated users and that’s called the Smile Shutter utility. It is a fascinating function that recognizes the point when a person is smiling and photographs it up automatically.

You can also make use of the Snapfish orientation that can allow you to print pictures. This feature has been especially added by the HP allowing you to give print commands from the phone itself. You can also print them by uploading on the PC which well, is an old feature.

ADVANTAGES

Its major advantages inclue a UMTS / HSDPA 2100 (tri-band for the US), up to 3.6 Mbps,which can enable high speed internet connections. Moreover, one can send emails wherever they are with an Email client. It’s a hi-fi technological device with quad-band GSM phone.

The Sony C510 can empower you with the latest technology loaded with features like high speed downloads and data and feature uploads.It holds a really sleek and slim design with that oh-so-cool silver look. It is a light weight model, like W580, but slightly thicker than its brother C902, measuring 107.0 x 47.0 x 12.5 mm – quite but looks more elegant.

The ability to turn-off the LED while focusing and shortcuts at the keypad are certainly nice features, so very thoughtful of Sony Ericsson for a mid-tier phone like C510.

The Smile shutter is a fantastic addition to pull crowds. The affordable price is a full-on BANG. Check for the innovative and really interesting lens cover which keeps it clean from any kind of dust and water.

Moving on to the screen features, the 2.2″ TFT display that is featured on the front side can display up to 262.144 colours. The borders are flush with the rest of the body, as the screen lies underneath a glass-like plastic cover, along with the rest of the top part of the phone. be careful not ot drop the phone! Clear display and colours! Legibility under direct sunlight is largely hindered by the screen coating, which is rather unfortunate.

My Sony Digital Camera

Some people might think that having a digital camera is relatively redundant today with the integration of a camera to the mobile phone. They feel that it is troublesome to carry two gadgets together as a mobile phone can accomplish the task of the digital camera. But to me, having a digital camera brings me a lot of satisfaction as it carries more functions as compared to a mobile phone. For example, the most sophisticated mobile phone in town will offer you up to 8 MP of picture quality. But with a digital camera you can get up to 14 MP.

So, when Seng Heng Store opened its branch in my hometown last month, I was of its customers on the opening day. A Sony camera caught my attention and I did not hesitate to ask one of the salesmen there about its functions and specifications. I wanted to purchase the camera through my credit card but the credit card processor was not ready so I had to wait for a few weeks! In addition, the free gifts, a camera casing and memory card were not available at that time. So, it is no point of me to buy it at that time.

Then last week I went to get the digital camera and again its memory card was still unavailable! As I could not wait any longer I just purchased it that day. So, the moral of the story is, do not buy an electronic item from a newly-opened shop.

My Aspire One Netbook

I have always dreamt of having a netbook which is more portable than a typical notebook. Since its inception last year, I have looked around the computer shops in Kota Bharu for the latest model. But at that time, most of the netbook used Windows XP as their OS, which definitely hampered my intention of purchasing one. On top of that, a netbook was equipped with 160 GB of hard disk which I found very limited for me to store my valuable files and documents.

But last month, one dramatic event forced me to sell my Compaq notebook which I bought in November 2009. My two younger daughters peeled off a few letters of its keyboard while I was performing my Maghrib prayer. I was mad at them so I hit them a few times just to teach them a lesson or two!

Then, I managed to persuade my colleagues, Zul and Mukti to reattach the letters to the keyboard. The mission was successfully completed but I felt uncomfortable typing with loose keyboard. As a result, I put up an advertisement in www.mudah.my.

Initially, a student from Bachok asked for the notebook and I agreed to sell it to him for RM1215. But a colleague of mine, Mat, showed his great interest in buying the item and was willing to pay by cash there and then, so I did not hesitate to let go the laptop to him just for a mere RM1180.

Right after the transaction was done, I drove to an Acer dealer in Tanah Merah to buy this netbook, Acer Aspire One for RM1299. The shop owner’s wife gave me ten free gifts which I found useful to be kept in my storeroom as I had already had some in my possession.

In a nutshell, now I am a happy owner of this Aspire One netbook and I really treasure it like my loyal companion. Well, the only minus point is that I have to strain my eyes when looking at the monitor but at this moment, I think I am already used to this condition.

I sold my notebook at mudah.my

After using my Acer notebook for four years, I thought that it was the time for me to buy a new one. I searched around on the Net and in the market and decided to buy a Compaq notebook. It is just for a change as my desktop was made by Acer. The new notebook costs me RM1699 and it’s bundled with Windows 7. Unfortunately, when I tried to connect to the Net via Celcom Mobile broadband service, I realized that the USB modem did not support the new OS. So I had to take it back to the shop and asked the technician to install Windows Vista instead. However, he was not a competent technician as he took four days to reinstall the new OS. I was mad with him as he took a long time to accomplish his task. I really needed the notebook urgently since I had some notes to type out. Yes, during this long school vacation, I stay at home to prepare my teaching materials for the coming year.

As for the old notebook, I sold it to a policeman from Kuala Terengganu who was on duty in Rantau Panjang during the recent flood season. I advertised it at www.mudah.my and it only took me thirty minutes to get the first caller after the advertisement was posted there. As the keyboard was faulty, I agreed to sell it for RM560. After all, he had to fork out at least RM120 to get it replaced. So we met in Tanah Merah and the item was finally sold. But I had to make sure that all documents, bookmarks and other private data had been moved to the new laptop for safety reasons. So I strongly advise all of you to sell your used and unwanted items at www.mudah.my. At least you can earn some side income by doing this.
