Happy birthday to me......

I turned 38 on 19 May 2011 and here I want to share this happy moment with all of you. Prior to my birthday, I received a birthday card from my hearing-impaired friend in Penang, Izwan Bahrudin. As he is currently unemployed, he only could only send me a card (please see the picture above). But to me, the card is more meaningful than a gift.

On my birthday’s eve, I received a long distance phone call from my Singaporean friend, Razak Abdullah, who is also a Muslim convert. I last met him when he came to Kelantan in mid 2008. On top of that, he also sent me an SMS which goes like this:

‘Receive my simple “GREETINGS” wrapped with “LOVE”, tied with “CARE” and sealed with “PRAYER” to keep you “SAFE”, “HAPPY” and “HEALTHY” always. Happy Birthday!

Then, my former student, AP, promised to give me a small commission for posting an advertisement of his Blackberry Torch on mudah.my which was successfully sold to a buyer from Machang. At first, I declined to accept the amount but he insisted on my taking it as a small token of appreciation for teaching him since he was in Form 3.

What I like most about facebook is that it reminds our friends about birthday. So from midnight I received continual sms alerts from facebook mobile on my hand phone. So many are the greetings posted on my facebook wall that I might take one week to reply to them with personalized messages.

But the best thing of all is the MMS sent by my beloved wife on this Thursday morning wishing a Happy Birthday to her other half!

My car has been washed

I bought this Proton Wira while I was still teaching at SMK Majakir, Papar, Sabah back in 2001. Upon knowing the outcome of my transfer application from the school clerk there, Puan Dayang Salmiah, I quickly asked my brother- in-law to book for this model in Kota Bharu with the hope that when I came back to my state, I would be able to use it to commute to my new school. However, it did not materialize as I had to borrow his Mazda for two weeks before my new car arrived.

When it was still new, I always washed and polished it almost every week. But now, I only do it once a month. To make it even worse, I only send it to the nearby car wash centre to get it cleaned as I was lazy to do it alone. After all, I only have to pay RM15 for this service and while waiting for my turn, I can read a newspaper.

The moral of the story is, love your car even though it is already old as it has given a considerable amount of help to you. I am not sure when I can buy a new car as money is always a hindrance to me especially when my three daughters are growing up and more money is needed to pay for their daily expenses and education.

Yes, choosing the right template to represent your identity is not an easy task. After going through an exhausting trial-and-error process for three day, I felt that it was enough. My home can now get 3G coverage!

Surfing the Net has never been the same with the 3G coverage that my notebook can detect for the past few days. Previously, my online experience was a headache as I had to bear the GPRS signal which was a little bit slower than a snail moving from one end to another end. At first, I couldn't believe myself when my younger brother told me about this good news. However, this 3G coverage is still probationary or unstable because of two reasons. First, the 3G coverage is unavailable in the morning and sadly, my newly-bought desktop cannot detect the 3G signal. It still shows GPRS icon despite my trying to connect and disconnect for a few times. Anyway, thanks to Celcom for expanding your 3G coverage in Tanah Merah, Kelantan. Finally, my complaint didn't fall on deaf ears.

I hate Inland Revenue Board!!!!

For the year of 2008, I got excess income tax. But IRB seems to be reluctant to refund my claim. Give debit when it is due, ok? After all, it's just RM100. This silly IRB wants to investigate further why I should be getting my excess income tax!!! Kenapa? Tak percaya ke?

My new glasses, again?

I felt frustrated with my new glasses which I bought 2 months ago. It's worth RM300 but after a while, their hinges were broken so I had to take them to the shop where I had bought it. The optician told me that my glasses were beyond repair. Therefore, I needed to replace them with the new set. Thank God, I didn't have to pay a single cent as they were still under warranty. My new glasses are brown and they are smaller and shorter than the previous ones.

So many blogs but with few visitors! I am tired of this!

I am maintaining a few blogs hosted at www.blogspot.com. In fact, I have 15 blogs under my control. But sad to say, my blogs lack of popularity or traffic. That's what I can say. I really envy those bloggers who can obtain so many comments from their visitors. But for me, to get one in a month is like a miracle. My first blog, tales2u.blogspot.com has been visited by visitors from 103 countries but only three of them left me comments. Yes, this blog receive visitors almost everyday but they are hesitant to leave comments or suggestions. I used to post 8 entries per month but now I keep it to 6. Well, I might reduce it to 4 monthly if I don't receive any response from visitors.

As for another blog, daddy-zuki.blogspot.com, I try to minimise its postings to 4 per month. To raise its popularity, I export its content to its sister site, zukideen.wordpress.com. This means both blogs have the similar posts.  At present, daddy-zuki has only 3 followers and I hope more will join the group.

My personal blog, the one that you are reading now is also losing its popularity. However, I try to post articles or updates every five days. To gain its popularity, I even integrate this blog with http://twitter.com/zukidin and http://www.facebook.com/zukideen. The end result is, whatever post published here will also appear in twitter and facebook.

In a nutshell, I might call it a day to blogging as I can hardly gain moral support from my visitors. I have other important things to do rather than sending posts to unread blogs. I hope that's clear. Thank you.

I have finally got my promotion to DG44

After being in the teaching profession for almost 12 years, I finally received my promotion letter this afternoon. Actually, I should have got it last year. But, thanks to the blunder made by my state education deparment, so I have to wait for another year to get my share. 

However, my seniority and arrears are not affected as the new grade, i.e. DG44 took effect from Sept 16, 2007. This means I will get lots of money after Hari Raya which I expect to be almost RM15K. 

To get my appointment letter, I had to drive all the way from my hometown to Kota Bharu. My friend, Abrari, who's in the same boat, accompanied me there. We arrived at the State Education Department at 4pm. Then, we went straight away to the Promotion Office to collect it. 

After everything was settled there, I went to PC Depot, a popular computer shop in KB to buy a new PC as my old one is out of service. It costs me almost RM900. But to me, money can be found, but the satisfaction is hard to come by. So I paid for it in full, but using my Citibank credit card, lah.

I hate marking test papers!

It's a teacher's duty to mark his pupils' answer scripts once the exam is over. I thought I could have some time for myself during this midyear break. Alas, with a pile of exam papers, I can forget about my pastime. So, I have to endure this marking period for the next two weeks. God willing, I will survive!

My new spectacles

I bought this pair of glasses today and then I asked my eldest to snap this photo. What do you think of my new look and specs?

In the afternoon, upon arriving home from school, I received a birthday card and gift from my SMS friend or 'teman tapi mesra' who lives in Kampung Tinosa, Sandakan, Sabah. Thanks a lot for your lovely present, Lin. I really appreciate it.

Keretaku calar lagi

Aku sudah menggunakan Proton Wira sejak Jun 2001 dan ia telah banyak berbakti kepadaku. Aku sudah cuba untuk menjaganya dengan sepenuh hati tetapi malangnya usahaku sia2 belaka kerana ada manusia2 yg tidak berhati-perut telah merosakkan kereta kesayanganku ini. Kesan calar dan kemek sudah menjadi lumrah apabila usia Wiraku mencecah 8 tahun. Kalau kesan kerosakan itu dilakukan olehku tak apalah juga. Ni tidak, apabila aku selesai menurunkan anak2ku di taska pagi tadi, alangkah terkejut king-kongnya aku terlihat kesan calar sepanjang 1 meter. Aku tak pasti sama ada ini dilakukan oleh unsur2 ganas di luar atau aku secara tak sedar telah meredah objek tajam. Wallahualam. Apa-apapun aku kena berfikir dua tiga kali sebelum mengambil keputusan untuk membeli kereta baru.

Happy Teacher's Day To My Former Teachers

Tanggal 16 Mei warga pendidik dan pelajar menyambut Hari Guru. Hari Guru di Malaysia telah disambut di Malaysia sejak tahun 1972 iaitu setahun sebelum aku dilahirkan ke dunia ini. Biar pun kini aku sendiri sudah bergelar seorang guru, atau lebih tepat lagi ‘Sir’, namun mana mungkin aku melupakan jasa-jasa bekas guruku yang telah mendidikku sejak zaman tadika lagi. 

Aku mula bersekolah di Tadika Kampung Mengketil, Machang, Kelantan pada tahun 1979. Tadika ini terletak bersebelahan dengan ladang getah ibuku, jadi cikgu2 ini dapat mengasuhku sementara dia menoreh getah. Kira-kira pukul 11.30 pagi ibu menjemputku di tadika untuk balik ke rumah. 

Selepas itu aku bersekolah di SK Pangkal Meleret, Machang dari tahun 1980 hingga 1985. Di sinilah aku mula belajar membaca, menulis, mengira dan mengurat. Oppss! Tersasul plak. Di sekolah ini aku sentiasa mendapat tempat pertama di dalam kelas kecuali hanya sekali aku mendapat tempat kedua. Sedih dan kecewa bukan main. Masa tu Peperiksaan Penggal Kedua di Darjah 2. 

Selepas mendapat keputusan yang cemerlang di dalam Peperiksaan Penilaian Darjah 5, iaitu 5A, aku ditawarkan ke sebuah sekolah berasrama penuh (SBP) iaitu SMACH atau Sekolah Menengah Sains Machang, yang terletak kira2 14km dari rumahku. Aku terasa homesick yang amat sangat semasa di Tingkatan 1. Tambahan pula aku dibuli oleh senior2 yg tak berhati perut. Namun aku tetap sabar kerana salah seorang pekerja di sekolah itu merupakan saudaraku. Jadi kalau ada apa2 hal aku mengadu la kat dia. Sedar tak sedar aku berjaya menghabiskan kontrak selama 5 tahun di sekolah ini dengan memperolehi 13 agregat di dalam SPM 1990. 

Moral dari pengalamanku ini ialah: Kita hendaklah menghargai guru walau di mana jua kita berada. Bak kata Usman Awang di dalam puisinya…Nanti aku cari puisi tu dulu, ok?
